Stray light—especially from sources just outside the camera's field of view—can scatter within the lens system, leading to reduced contrast, washed-out colors, and lens flare. These optical artifacts are especially problematic in outdoor or high-contrast environments, where directional light (like sunlight) strikes the lens obliquely.

This custom-designed hood for the CMF Phone 2 Pro addresses these issues by physically shielding all three rear-facing lenses (ultrawide, main, and telephoto) from off-axis light, while remaining clear of the image circle. Each hood segment is shaped to match the field of view of its respective lens, ensuring effective protection without introducing vignetting or obstruction.

The design uses flared contours to create a balance between shading and coverage, leveraging the principle that light entering the lens outside its angular field of view can be safely blocked without affecting the image.
