I wanted a way of sliding my surfboard into my van after a session because tying it to the roof bars is a major faff. The solution I came up with was to install some aluminium rails on the ceiling (see instructions here: https://www.printables.com/model/1290425-ceiling-rail-hardware-for-80x16-rails-in-vw-transp). I then designed these “hooks” for the front rail so that my surfboard can be slid into place.
On the rear rail I installed some hooks. Once the surfboard is resting on the front two hooks, it can be secured under the fins at the rear using a length of rope and a carabina.
To secure the hooks you'll need:
I also superglued some leather strips to the hooks to avoid scratching the board.
For the rear rail you'll need 2 x hooks on M6 bolts with M6 t-slot nuts.
I printed these in PETG at 50% infill using tree supports (see photo).
