PDF

This model replaces the existing filament sensor housing of the Neptune 3 series filament sensor to have one with integrated M6 threads. This is not a perfect solution, as the preferred option is to use M6 heated inserts instead. I did not have any on hand, hence this now exists

Printing information:

  • Print 0.12 layer height and slowly. Preferred orientation for better threading is on its side with the hole facing up/down, but can be printed flat with supports

Instructions on assembly:

  • Use PC4-M6 to gently screw them into threads - this part is tricky as it could easily become crooked. This part needs to be as perpendicular as possible to avoid filament jamming
  • Disconnect and unscrew the filament sensor from the printer
  • Remove metal back plate and bottom plastic cover to reveal the insides
  • Take out the components, and place them into the new housing
    • Check to see if all of the parts move as expected without interruption by pushing filament through to test
  • Reassemble the filament sensor

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

Used original STEP file for the printer, and took out just the filament sensor housing. Then I added in M6 threads on the sides, and widened the filament path entry/exit near the bearings
