Proof that 1 liter = 1 dm³

To demonstrate that 1 liter is equal to 1 cubic decimeter, we use two objects:

A cube with sides measuring 1 decimeter (dm).

A beaker labeled with a capacity of 1 liter (1 L).

Step 1: Calculate the volume of the cube

A cube's volume is found by raising the length of one side to the third power:

Volume of cube=1  dm × 1  dm × 1  dm=1 dm³

Step 2: Fill the cube with water

Fill the cube completely with water until it reaches the top edge. Since the cube has a volume of 1 dm³, the amount of water inside it is 1 cubic decimeter of water.

Step 3: Pour the water into the beaker

Carefully pour all the water from the cube into the beaker.

Step 4: Observe the beaker

The water perfectly fills the beaker up to the 1-liter mark.

Conclusion:

Since the water from a 1 dm³ cube exactly fills a 1-liter beaker, we have shown by physical measurement that:

1 liter = 1 dm³
