Development Background

During lessons using the Walking MechatroWeGo, accidents frequently occur where the robot falls off the desk. The Walking MechatroWeGo is a small bipedal robot developed by Living Robot Inc., a company based in Fukushima, Japan. It was created as a real walking robot that stays true to the original concept and vision of the MechatroWeGo character. Even when telling students to "be careful," special actions like "Special 1" have unpredictable movements, and by the time anyone notices, the robot has already fallen. We realized there are limits to what student supervision can accomplish. A fall prevention solution was needed that would still allow the WeGo's movements to be visible. 2mm acrylic sheet is transparent, allowing the WeGo's movements to be observed while being affordable.

Features

  • Easy assembly and disassembly. Simply insert the acrylic sheets into the joint pieces to complete.
  • Uses 2mm acrylic sheets. You can purchase acrylic sheets from home improvement stores and cut them yourself. No need for a laser cutting machine - an acrylic cutting knife will work fine and is much simpler. I use 80mm height with 300mm and 200mm length sheets.
  • Recommended acrylic height is 80mm or more. This ensures the robot stays within the enclosure even when performing large movements like WeGo Special actions.
  • The parts are divided into base and upper sections.
  • The base parts can be temporarily secured with masking tape to prevent the frame from shifting.
  • PET-G is recommended for printing the connector parts.
  • As shown in this video (https://youtube.com/shorts/18exA-ZStPA), the enclosure safely contains the robot even when performing a Hyper Power Shot 3 near the edge of the frame.

This guard is especially useful in educational settings where students can see their programming results through the actual movement of the robot, making the learning experience more engaging while preventing accidents.
