This replacement part connects the handle with the body of the vacuum cleaner socket (see the grey part in the real world picture). It's designed after the real world part (which broke on my vacuum cleaner) and has been improved for easier printing and durability.

I've printed it with PETG as it offers better flexibility than PLA. It probably also works when printed with PLA, but might break fast(er) as PLA is brittle. The replacement part was designed with the real dimensions, so keep your printers accuracy and filaments shrink factor in mind.

Assemble the upper handle first (with the replacement part in place) and then "snap" it into the vacuum cleaner socket part. It should "snap" in with a medium push. I've removed the original fins on purpose.

Printing Notes:

I've used an infill of 40% for durability. It might also work with more or less infill.
The print warped a bit on my printer (so maybe add a brim or raft), which wasn't too bad as the whole vacuum cleaner isn't designed very accurately.

Post-Printing

  1. Remove supports carefully
  2. Check whether the metal plate fits into the replacement part...post-process both if needed
  3. Assemble everything

How I Designed This

The replacement part was designed precisely after the original part. The design was changed in the following points:

  • removed the large inner cut-out of the cube shaped part for better durability and stiffness, as the new design creates more contact points to the round part
  • increased the size of the holding fins at the upper end of the cube shaped part, which are now also cube shaped (instead of triangular), to improve their durability
  • changed the shape of the cube shaped thing at the cube shaped part (appears on one side only) as it was easer to design and easier to print (still fits perfectly).
