Tetra's Failure Hat

To make this model you will need the following colors of filament
Light Blue (this is the base, can be any color)
Yellow
Hot Pink
Dark Blue or Purple
White

All filament colors i used can be found on the IIIDMax website https://www.iiidmax.com/product-category/pla-filament/pla/

If making a hat, you will also need the hat itself. You can use any hat you like but here's a link to the one i used in the photo.

Print with a 0.4mm nozzle and a 0.15mm layer height. I recommend using ironing on all top surfaces for best appearance but its not necessary. Make sure that your printers flow rate is properly calibrated or the holes will be too small. If you continue to have problems you can try to print outer walls first.

Color changes:
Set pauses at the beginning of each of the below layers and swap to the specified color
Layer 1 - Light Blue (or the color of your choosing)
Layer 8 - Yellow
Layer 11 - Pink
Layer 14 - Dark Blue (or purple)
Layer 18 - Pink
Layer 21 - White


After the print is finished you will need to bend it. I recommend using a butane blowtorch for this. DO NOT USE A LIGHTER, it is not a large enough flame and wont allow it to soften evenly. You will also need a few hard objects roughly the same shape as your hat, i used a large bowl and a table corner but anything hard will work.

Start buy placing your print (with design facing down) on a flat, non flammable surface. Use your blowtorch to slowly heat up the plastic keeping the flame 6-8 inches away for about 5 seconds, make sure to constantly move the flame around to evenly heat the plastic. You don't want to melt the plastic at all, just soften it a tiny tiny bit. Next pick it up (it shouldn't be hot enough to burn you) and use your palm to press it against your molding object, then hold it firmly tell it cools down enough to be rigid (should only take 15-20 seconds) Repeat the process of heating it up and pressing it against different objects until it fits onto the hat without any gaps.

The next step is to sew it onto the hat. I used a regular needle and thread although you could try fishing line if you don't want it to be as visible. I used 4-6 loops of thread on each pair of holes. You could try less although it probably wont be very strong. The last step i did which is optional is gluing the back of each thread hole, i just used one little drop of super glue on the inside of the hat to hold the threads in place and make sure they don't come undone.
