I always was fascinated by those maze cylinders, and BDflight's vase mode Labyrinth gift box (2018) was one of my first prints, though mredmon's Customizable Spiralized Maze was earlier (2017), and of course other non-vase-mode model like sneakypoo's Labyrinth Gift Box (2013), which seems to be the first one, were even earlier. I always wanted to make such a maze box myself - and now I finally did :) (from scratch of course).

I made a few different sizes, one is especially easy with only few and short dead ends. Since they are printed in vase mode, they don't take much filament and print fairly quickly (depending on your settings, see below).

Printing:

  • choose a model and the matching lid (“LID” in otherwise matching file name).
  • vase mode!
  • extrusion width/line width (outer wall/perimeter) 0.7mm!
  • different layer heights for body and lid for smoother operation (e.g. 0.17mm for maze, 0.22mm for lid).
  • 4 bottom layers.
  • for higher speed: filament settings → cooling → max fan layer time (OrcaSlicer) or “Slow down if layer print time is below” (PrusaSlicer): about 3 to 6 seconds, depending on cooling.
  • If the lid doesn't fit over the maze well, try a smaller extrusion with or a small positive XY (contour) compensation fir the lid,
  • if the lid is too loose, try the opposite.
