For mounting I used mounting putty/sticky tack/poster putty, which is a putty that does not harden and does not leave any residue behind or destroy surfaces it comes into contact with. The LED light strip is light enough that once the putty has cooled down it stays in place, HOWEVER I have found that if you keep the lights on at maximum brightness the strip does become hot enough to soften the putty up which causes the mounts to come loose.

If you're looking for a more stable adhesion I'd recommend double sided tape, but this may damage the surface it comes into contact with.
