These are wedges that can be used to level an IKEA "Billy" bookshelf on uneven floors. This is useful when you for example have an older floor that is sloping away from the wall, causing the bookshelf to also tilt outwards. You use them as follows:
- Place your billy bookshelf against the wall in the location you want it
- Tilt the bookshelf backwards against the wall
- Measure the extra vertical space under each side of the “feet” of the bookshelf
- Select the corresponding wedge shape for each side (remember to mirror one for the right side)
- For example, if there is a 2mm gap on the left side and a 4 mm gap on the right side, you select the 2 mm model for the left side, and the 4 mm model for the right side (which you also need to mirror in your slicer)
- Then, after printing, simply keep the shelf tilted back, and slide in the wedges to level it
Notes
- This is not a replacement for a proper wall anchor for the shelf. If you keep kids around or anything heavy in the shelf, I heavily encourage you to use wall anchors!
- Remember to print a mirrored version of one wedge for the right side of the shelf!
Print Settings
Since these wedges are supporting a heavy load, I encourage you to print them using for example PETG with 100% infill. In addition, since there is a slight slope in the model on which the bookshelf is supported, it works best with smaller layer heights. So I suggest at most 0.1 mm layer height.
- Material: PETG
- Infill percentage: 100%
- Layer height: 0.1 mm
