Overview
- A replacement center console insert for a Gen 5 Subaru Outback that can hold a wireless charger.
- Wireless charger I have used is no longer available, but have modified the file to fit up to a 100mm diameter wireless charger, and left the shape of my charger in the hope of making it fit a wide range of chargers.
- Any wireless charger you decide to use should be no more than 7mm thick to fit in this design.
- Here is a link to a wireless charger that will fit from Amazon (not affiliated)
Printing Recommendations:
1. Main body:
- Use a filament with heat resistance, at a minimum PETG, would recommend PETG-CF as it has better heat resistance then standard PETG, and less of a hassle to print then ASA/ABS/Nylon
- Would recommend printing with 4 walls and 10% infill (I really like gyroid infill)
- No support required
2. Main top cover:
- Printed out of 85a TPU give the surface a little friction so the phone doesnt move about as much.
- While the thermal resistance of TPU isn't great, melting point of tpu is 180 degrees centigrade, and is not structural.
- To improve surface quality/take advantage of my textured bed I printed the ‘main top cover’ with the charge symbol face down with no support.
- An alternative way to generate interesting surface patterns is to disable ‘top shell layers’ in your slicer, then changing infill settings will change the top texture.
- No support required
3. Storage insert:
- Printed out of 85a TPU
- A way to generate interesting surface patterns is to disable ‘top shell layers’ in your slicer, then changing infill settings will change the top texture. (see third image).
- No support required
To get more out of the wireless charger you could use a portable battery rather than using the 12v socket, but do not leave these unnatended in the car as they are fire risks!!
If you have any feedback, or suggestions for edits I'd love to hear them!
