The cylindrical rod now features optimized grooves that reduce filament stress during winding, preventing breakage that was common with the original design. It also makes removing the finished spring much easier. While the original model left sharp protruding end that needed to be trimmed, this version allows the filament to end cleanly inside the groove, making it safer for your cat to play with straight off the winder.
For tighter, more defined springs, applying a bit of heat at the end of the winding process can help. Once most of the filament is wrapped around the rod and the tail end is still secured in the body, gently heat the spring using a hair dryer or warm water. Let it cool completely before releasing to help the spring hold its shape better.
