ZWO Seestar S50 baffled light/dew shield for use with 2-inch (M48x0.75) filters.

This baffled light/dew shield is an interference fit and slides into place. I've added spring-loaded tangs to help to grip the Seestar. Remember to remove it before shutting down the Seestar. This design has many baffles inside to help reduce light reflections. Printing out of matte black filament is best.

This is an update to my previous baffled light/dew shield design. This new one is a two piece design for use with standard 2-inch filters with M48x0.75 threads. First, screw in the filter into the base into the inner threads (M48x0.75) and then screw in the shield extension to the outer threads of the base (M56x1) to lock in the filter.

These very fine threads can be frustrating with 3D printed parts, but some patience is useful. Use a 0.4mm nozzle and very fine layer height for the threaded feature (0.07mm - 0.10mm layer height). Use variable layer height for the body as the rest of the body can be made with 0.30mm layer height. I like PLA+ for these and have had better luck with PLA+ than PETG for fine threads like this. Work the threads in by twisting back and forth and then cleaning any plastic debris/dust and the then the threads should be relatively smooth. If you have a M48x0.75 metal adapter, it is helpful to use this to work in the threads before trying to screw on a filter.

!!! CAUTION !!!

The Seestar has a tendency to close the arm during shutdown and it sometimes shuts down uncommanded. The dew shield is just a friction fit and can fall off. This has happened on occasion on mine and the dew shield falls to the ground. Not a problem for a cheap 3D-printed plastic dew shield, but a major issue if you have your expensive glass filter installed and it crashes to the ground. While having the filter assembled inside of the light shield does offer some protection, it still could break if it falls. With the new EQ Mode, the tilt angle could make this more of an issue and it could even fall off in session without a closed arm. I recommend ONLY using the threaded version with filters if the Seestar is attended.
