A revision of https://www.printables.com/model/832708-conways-game-of-life-still-life-tiles using hidden snaps instead of jigsaw like fittings.

These 19 tiles (with alternates) fit together like a puzzle, but the only way to complete it with a boundary is if it represents a still life in Conway's Game of Life, using dark blue circles for live cells. The photos shows 3D-printed tiles assembled into the 7-cell "fishhook" eater and a less common 12-cell still life that uses a block to suppress cell birth.

I printed all tiles in white except for the live cells, which are a metallic blue ("burnt titanium").

You can read more about this in the following thread on ConwayLife: https://conwaylife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2188 The tiling has been refined significantly since the first posting from 2016.

Update since previous version:

  • Tiles snap together on sides using the approach I've used in other recent models.
  • Borders include hidden contours that fit against adjoining interior tiles. They don't snap but they prevent sliding.
  • Interior tiles and borders have lips at the base to prevent cell pieces from falling through. It is possible to lift an assembled still life if you use a small amount of care.
