This device will help you prevent egg cracking during boiling by making a small hole the egg to relieve the pressure. Ideally, the hole should be placed over the air pocket, typically located on the broader end of the egg (if hole won't match the air pocket, small amount of egg will come out - still far less compared to amount getting out of cracked egg). Model requires a pin needle, thanks to built in spring it comes out only when device is used. Model prints without supports, including the simple Easter-themed egg pattern on the side wall :)
Printing
- Materials:
- Base and cover - PLA
- Spring - PETG (do not use PLA, since it deforms permanently when pressed)
- No supports needed
- Spring should be scaled up to account for shrinkage differences between PLA and PETG (102% scale should be OK)
- You will also need a pin needle. Adjustment for different pin dimensions may be needed. Message me those and I'll generate a matching set of files as project is fully parametric. Current files are generated for pin needle of the following dimensions:
- Handle diameter: 9 mm
- Handle height: 12 mm
- Needle height (without handle): 10.7 mm
Assembly
- Press fit the spring into base as shown in the picture
- Glue in the pin needle into its pocket. Make sure it is perpendicular with respect to base
- Put the cover on the base. This may require some force to push the taps inside the base
- Be careful not to stab yourself with the pin needle while doing this!
- Rotate the cover till taps click into the grooves on the base' wall
