I wanted to have a way of quickly seeing the progress of my current print, without visiting my printer, an app or the webpage of octoprint. Also I needed a use for the LED-Ring I bought a few months ago.
What you will need:
On the ESP8266 you'll need to install WLED and setup wifi: https://github.com/Aircoookie/WLED
Additional software :
Solder the LED-Ring to the ESP8266 as follows:
Instead of D4 you can use another port, just make sure you adjust the settings in the WLED settings. Also if you bought an ESP8266 with pins pre-attached you need to shorten them.
I printed both parts using PLA without brims or support.
After all is ready gently slide the ESP into the socket while inserting the two positioning poles into the holes of the ESP. The ring is placed around it (as seen in the picture).
In OctoPrint add the plugin WLED Connection and in the plugin's settings set the IP of your ESP8266.
Big thanks to the guys and girls at Octoprint, WLED and especially WLED Connection!
