Due to the recent fires in California, we have been suffering from extremely poor quality.
This caused a shortage in HVAC air filters. However, I had just ordered a new air filter for my car and realized that instead of filtering smoky air after it entered our apartment, it would be better to filter it as it comes in.
I designed this vent cover to hold the filter linked below for the air inlet to our apartment. I hope that others will take some inspiration from it or find it immediately useful.
Our vent has two bolts spaced 6.5" apart (~165mm).
The cover here will fit over a 8" x 8" vent (~200mm x ~200mm) and hold a filter that is 8.25" x 8.25" x 0.6" (210mm x 210mm x 15mm)
Here is the filter I used: https://amzn.to/2Sde1K6
I assembled the cover with 4x 3mmx35mm bolts and 2x 3mmx15mm bolts. If you don't have bolts this long on hand, you can also use superglue or epoxy to join the WallPlate and Standoff parts, then use shorter ~3mm bolts to attach the top cover
