Hi,

I always wanted an affordable, uncluttered and reliable mechanical pencil that I can always carry with me.

This is the 3d printed solution I came up with. It's a simple mechanism, allowing you to adjust the length of the leads using gravity. I think they are comfotable to hold, but since everyone is different I also made an ergonomic cover for the pen if you don't like the shape but still want to write/draw with it for a longer period of time.

I hope you like it :-)

There are several versions with the following dimensions:

Keychain version: 55 x 12 x 4 mm

Short version: 105 x 12 x 4 mm

Long version: 125 x 12 x 4 mm

Long version with clip: 125 x 12 x 4 mm

Sturdy version (for 2.7 mm leads): 105 x 12 x 6 mm

The hole in the back has a diameter of 4 mm.

How do you print it?

It consists of only one part and can easily be printed in around 1 hour with no supports. I recommend a 0.12 mm layer height, a 20% gyroid infill and PLA.  The ergonomic grip cover is optional and can be printed in 45 minutes using the same settings.

How do you use it?

  1. You need basic leads with a 0.9* mm diameter in order to use this pencil.
  2. To insert a lead, simply insert it at the hole in the front until it stops moving. Then rotate the pen upwards and press the lever on the side - gravity will do the rest for you as the lead slides down into the pen.
  3. To store more leads just repeat step 2.
  4. Press down the lever on the side and you will be able to slide them in. You can store several leads in the pencil.
  5. In order to be able to write with the pencil you need to tilt the front down towards the paper and press the lever on the side - gravity will make the lead slide downwards. Just adjust it to the length that you desire and stop pressing the lever. This will fix the lead in its position. I recommend sliding the lead back after you used it to keep the PLA flexible for a long time!

*if you need a different diameter just let me know

If it does not work for you please leave a comment or shoot me a message instead of just posting a 1 star review, I'm sure there is no problem that can't be solved.
