The Coat of Arms for the Former German Capital Bonn — Prepped for a DIY pin Accessory

I created this model from converting an image and trimming/adding basic geometry and height to it. You might find other uses for it beyond the intended DIY pin.

3MF File

This 3D model includes some height, allowing for a multi-color print without the need for an MMU, AMS, ACE, or other multi-material mods. Simply pause the print at the appropriate layer to swap filament, or add the color change in your slicer's G-code preview.

I also added inserts for small blank pins. If you plan to scale the model, be sure to exclude these inserts from scaling and realign them to the bottom afterward. Otherwise, the pins won’t fit properly.

BGcode

This is an example G-code for the MK4s, with color changes at the correct heights for a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer height.

Printing

I printed a test version in single color and another in multi-color. I used standard and silk PLA on faster settings with no issues. I recommend using at least a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer height to give the lion some definition and ensure smoother color transitions.

Assembly and other Materials

You'll need some blank pins, available from hobby stores or online. Look for blank pins/DIY pins with a diameter of 1cm (~0.4 inches). 

To attach the pins to your print:

• Place a drop of super glue into the narrow top end of the insert.
• Insert the pin through the wider end and slide it up until it’s centered in the narrow end.

I usually roughen the underside of the pin with sandpaper before gluing, but it will likely hold fine without that step.
