I wanted to keep a tiny amount of SuperLube in a small service kit as my 3D printer only needs a tiny bit of this every 500 hours or so. To make the kit half the length, I made the plunger removable from the syringe, and to save space, I made the plunger hollow so I could store 2 Luer lock nozzles inside it.
I printed it standing up in PLA, then inserted an M3 heat-set insert into the short segment, and an M3 flat head screw maybe 4 or 5mm long into the plunger, and hot glued it in place. I removed the rubber plunger cap from a 3mL syringe and placed it atop the short segment, filled up the syringe, and then pushed the new segment in place. The hollow plunger can screw in or unscrew from the short segment, even though it rotates a bit, it seems to work fine for me. The reason for all this extra M3 hardware is now the plunger works in both directions.
I may have last-minute hacked it by extending the segmented plunger part by a few mm and removing the chamfer, to accommodate the heat set insert that I used. I apologize that I cannot find that specific modification, but the cylindrical part now measures about 6mm in length, if that helps.
