Volvo Fuel Door Hinge Pin

Print the model using the included base to help secure it to the plate.  Hold the pin with pliers and tap in with a hammer.  Once the pin is steady enough to hold itself, use a finish nail setting tool and hammer to insert to the right depth.  The flared end will pop off leaving only the center pin in its inserted position.

Originally I created a hinge assembly to replace the one you could purchase.  However, after printing that model in every possible consumer grade filament, I could not find a satisfactory solution.  The material would not withstand the tension of the spring of the hinge, or would become misshaped under prolonged strain.  Injection molded plastic seems to be the only way to make this part.  However, the new one I had was missing the pin which flares holding clips to secure it to the body panel.  A few minutes to design and a few more to print, and this is the model we have.  It should be printed in higher temp material to prevent it from coming lose during summer or high temp days.
