The Helvetica typeface was designed in Switzerland in 1957 and became one of the most popular fonts in the world. This lowercase letter “a” is from the original design which was cast in metal and printed on a letterpress. When it was translated into computer/photo typesetting in the 1980s, it lost some of its uniqueness and charm. Designers may appreciate this journey down memory lane.
