Are your window blinds hard to open?  Do you have an older relative that's losing hand strength?  Attach these non-destructive balls to the string pulls on your blinds and make things much easier!

Hardware:

  • The printed parts
  • 2x M3x12mm button head screws

Instructions:

  1. Print as per the print settings in the orientation provided in the STL.  The models are designed to be able to print in that orientation with 0.2mm layers without supports.  Note that your printer must be able to bridge a 20mm gap to print these properly.
  2. Tie the window blind cord around the peg using a clove hitch knot (see pictures for what this looks like).  Position the peg wherever it is easiest to use.
  3. Fasten the two halves of the ball together around the peg, taking care to guide the cord into the channels.  The screws will cut their own threads the first time you assemble it.

Print Settings:

You can probably use whatever material you want, although PETG or ASA is recommended because this print will most likely be hanging in direct sunlight.  I designed it to use PETG, so make sure you compensate for shrinkage if you use ASA or ABS.

The following settings are what I used, and are probably overkill, but I wanted strong:

0.4mm Nozzle:
  • Layer height: 0.2mm required for bridging
  • Walls: 4 walls
  • Top/Bottom: 5 layers
  • Infill: 30% gyroid
