Summary

The overall dimensions of the Strawberry cake coin are 6 cm in diameter and 1.25cm in sickness, but the dimensions are changed a bit because some details on it extended it to 6.40cm in diameter and 1.225 in thickness. I wanted to make something cute, that would be pink, red or white in color so I decided to make a top of the strawberry cake shaped coin. I also was inspired by the new collection of my favorite makeup brand that had this type of design. I can’t afford it now, so I did something similar myself.

Lesson Plan

  • All coins must be made from an initial revolve resulting in a coin that is 6cm in diameter and 1.25cm in thickness.
  • Must not require ANY supports, (no supports).
  • Should be gear-esque in nature.
  • NO moving parts, (no gyroscopes, fidget spinners, etc.)
  • Must slope downwards towards the center in some fashion.

Overview and Design choices

I visualised how this is going to look and sketched it on the piece of paper to not forget and to know exactly how it looks and dimensions of the coin

This is how It should look from the top:

This is how it looks from the side if cut in half:

And this is how it looks overall:

So I started from the sketch and revolved it around the side to make a base

To make the borders which are like cream on the cake I made a sphere and circle patterned it. I also added fillets so it looks smooth.

Next I had to figure out how to make the whipped cream. I had three choices: simply make a cylinder shape and circle pattern it, make it using swept boss/base feature or using lofted boss/base feature. Just cylinders looked too boring, so since I knew how to use the lofted boss/base I decided to use it:

I made two planes

On the plane in the middle I made star sketch

On the coin's surface I made a circle sketch

And the small one on the highest plane

All three of them were on different planes but had the same center. So next I could use the lofted boss/base feature choosing these three sketches.

After this I circle patterned it around the edge of the coin.

Next I had to do hearts but I decided to do strawberries because it’s easier. I made a sketch, revolved it and after I circle patterned it.

The coin still looked pretty boring to me, so I decided to add a hole in a shape of heart

This is the finished model of my coin. I printed it in two ways, using only one color and using white, pink and red colors.

This is how the model looks in color in solidworks

This is how it looks printed with one color

And this is printed with multiple
