I like involute gears, so I decided to design a front cover with lots of them on it!

I really like involute gears and have already created visualisers for X, Z & E axes in the shape of a gear as well as a control knob in the shape of a gear.  You can find all of these here.

I decided I'd like a new cover for the LCD display that was a bit more interesting than the one that says “ORIGINAL PRUSA” and, after managing to convert Prusa's STL file into a more useful STEP file, I created this gear design.

I've created two gcode files for this.  The one named “auto colour change” (which I didn't use) has two colour changes inserted in the gcode.  If you use that, you'll get the black background for the gears, but you'll also get a black stripe around the edge where the border of the black layer has been printed in black.

The one named “manual first colour change” has a pause instead of a colour change for the first colour change.  When the printer pauses, resume the print but watch it while it does the first bit of the next layer.  As soon as it finishes going twice around the outer perimeter, pause the print and then use unload filament to swap to black.  It'll then complete the infill of that layer and initiate a colour change once the layer is complete.
