An easy to print replacement PEI nozzle cleaning plate holder for the Qidi Plus 4

Introduction

The stock PEI holder allows the nozzle to collide heavily with the edge of the PEI plate.  Most of the times the printer handles this okay, but sometimes the nozzle catches hard, and causes a large pressure build up which can release violently, or in the worst cases, crack the ceramic heatbreak on the nozzle, which has been reported to happen numerous times now.

This model introduces a slope to the portion of the spring bound PEI holding plate.  This now provides a gentle ramp onto the PEI scrubbing plate which in turn minimises the side ways torquing force that wants to bend the nozzle, and/or crack the nozzle heatbreak.

Printing Instructions

Use any high temperature tolerant filament, such as ASA, PC, PA, or PET.  CF or GF composites usually provide extra heat tolerance and so are also good choices.  Just avoid PLA or PETG, although certain PETG-GF blends may be okay.

Print in the orientation as shown in the STL file.  The stock part has all sorts of tapers as a result of the injection molding process, as does the wiper assembly.  Printing in this orientation will provide the smoothest angled transitions for all surfaces, with only the top face being subject to any stair stepping.

Support are not required.

I strongly recommend a 0.1mm layer height, but 0.12 and 0.16lh should also work.

Installation

The stock nozzle cleaning assembly can be detached by removing the rear panel of the printer.

Then locate the 4 screws in the area highlighted by the red box on the attached photo.  Only two of the screws are visible in this photo.

This close-up photo shows all 4 screws.

Unscrew these screws, and the whole nozzle wiper assembly should just slide out from the front.  Note that the purge bucket mechanism may catch, so be gentle, and carefully examine what is catching and gently move the purge bucket arm out of the way.

Remove the PEI wiper plate.  It may be prised off with a sharp flat edged screw-driver, or the metal scraper that came with the printer.

The assembly should look something like this:

Remove the screws and springs that attach the PEI holder to the assembly.  Afterwards you should see something like this

From here, remove the springs and bolts, and place them into the newly printed part.

Re-assembly is just the reverse of the above procedure.

Note, do NOT stick the PEI plate back in place just yet.

Re-attach the whole assembly to the printer.

With the printer off, move the print head over the ejection chute and then to the right over the PEI plate.

Adjust the left screw in the plate holder until the nozzle is just clearing the left plastic edge of the plate holder.  Adjust the right-screw until the back edge of the plate holder is parallel with the rear of the assembly.

When successfully installed, it should look something like this:

The plate should be slanted, but the rear edge is level.

That's it!  Now get back to worry free printing!
