This replaces the very small thumb-tab used to manually retract the blade guard with a more ergonomic, and safer position away from the blade itself, allowing you to transition from holding the blade guard to the handle on top of the tool seamlessly.
Be aware if you are not manually opening the blade guard (as most operations should allow) that this extension could catch on a long sleeve (which shouldn't be worn with a tool like this anyway) and stop smooth motion of the saw through the material if the blade card cannot retract. Ensure that it will not interfere with how you hold and use the saw before even putting a battery in and attempting to use the saw.
The original thumb-tab is made of PA6-GF30, and appears to be made so short in order to avoid damage if the tool falls on its side. Using an inflexible material here (like PLA) could lead to a shattered part, so PETG, ABS or PA6/PA12 is recommended, unless you want to keep spares around.
Doing a composite component with PETG and TPU could definitely work, if you have a good multi-material setup.
