had some filament break on me, due to the very tight bend of the PTFE tube of the old design.

didn't keep the project files so i had to recreate it from scratch….

which is good(?) because it made me switch to Fusion because, since i didn't want to work with FreeCAD again, because i had a lot of trouble with it… which doesn't mean that this design is better, but that's due to the lack of my CAD experience.

new flaws:

  • i made the dovetail go through the part the long way, which made sense in my head, but not only does it suck for printability, i also couldn't be bothered to add clearance afterwards, so it's really hard to assemble, too
  • kinda forgot to check the length of the cable for the filament runout sensor, so it might be a bit tight? (i moved the mounting holes down by a bit since, so it may be a bit better now. also i have a mod in the electrical bay that i have to route around, which steals a bit of the overall length of my cable but you still might have to snip the zipties that are holding the cables out of the factory.)

but hey, the bend of the PTFE tube is now much better and i added some thickness at the top, so it is now possible to mount two spools at the same time!!! (which further worsened printability…..)

in the picture you can see, that i have cut off the piece of PTFE tube that leads into the filament sensor, that is not neccessary, i had just done it before and am fine with it.

all in all, printability is much worse, assembly is much worse (maybe scale the top part slightly up to make it easier?)
but we have a much better bend for the PTFE tube and double the spool capacity now.

anyways, here's some of the text of the old version, just to be sure
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Features (reasons why i designed my own):

  • no riser needed
  • lid still fully usable
  • integrated filament runout sensor
  • easily replace spools from the front
  • doesn't increase overall width
  • (probably too) sturdy (but symmetric, yay)

Original screws will need to be replaced with M3x12 screws.
Do NOT use longer screws, they will screw into the XY belts and prevent them from moving properly!
For filament runout sensor and PTFE coupler use original screws.
I had to cut off about 5cm of the PTFE tube.

Might work with TPU with the spool holder tube mounted towards the front (if not, maybe with an extension tube?)
NOT TESTED

Big thanks to @Henlor for making the K1 CAD models.
Made getting measurements and getting (almost) all the holes right on the first try a breeze!

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

more spools more better?

better PTFE tube routing

also worse printability.
