The Mummy Inspired Key

Inspired by the 1999 movie the Mummy is my take on a twist key. Twisting the two halves causes the spring loaded latches to deploy which can then be used as a key. I have included two sample key holes which can be added to a locking mechanism of your own design. You may choose from either the Mummy inspired design or a plain design if you want a different style. I would recommend storing it in the “open” position to avoid fatiguing the springs. All parts may be printed without supports, I did manually paint supports for the “top” part where the spring goes. 

Assembly Instructions

1. Place the 3 latches into the bottom in the fully extended position
2. Place the mirrored spring onto of the latches, you may wish to use a small amount of glue to hold the spring in place
3. Place the cap on top of the spring, again you may wish to use a small amount of glue to hold the cap in place
4. Place 4 magnets into each half, making sure the two halves attract
5. Holding the latches closed join the two halves together with all magnets aligned

• Mirrored spring so it would push latches out
• Added a bottom half 
• Added magnets to hold halves together
