I never was a fan of the MMU buffer - actually, I never used it :-)
Instead, I use the excellent auto-rewind spool holder of Vincent Groenhuis, available here.
(For some reason, he did not post this version on Printables. It is actually much better than the one the posted on Printables.)
I've put 5 such holders on a shelf behind my printer setup in an “Ikea” enclosure, and it works perfectly, without buffer - see pictures.
As a way to remind which filament is mounted in which position, I designed a holder that will fit these swatches, and also has a guide to insert the filament. There is a hole at the right dimension to hot-push an M6x10x8 brass insert that will accommodate a PC4-M6 fitting to securely hold a PTFE tube to the MMU unit.
I've added the Fusion f3d file in case you want to adapt to other swatch dimensions.
