The marvellous Little Pit Stop series by the redoubtable rorys3D seemed as if it could do with a safer set of wheels - when printing the originals in PLA/PETG they are lovely but lacking in road-holding and cornering capability. So, find herewith a set of completely compatible wheels, consisting of separate rims and tyres. This also adds yet another mix-and-match opportunity, with the option of separate materials (and colours) for tyres and rims.
Print the rims in PLA, or PETG, or whatever fancy firm filament that finds favour, and then use TPU or similar soft substance for the tyres. All printed without supports, at whichever layer thickness you prefer; personally I like variable layer heights, around a nominal 0.2mm baseline. Use a random seam position to prevent the formation of a seam line running across the tread of the smooth tyres.
As in the canonical designs, there are four types of wheel in total: two sizes of road wheel (TyreSmall.stl and TyreLarge.stl), and two sizes for offroad use (OffroadTyreSmall.stl and OffroadTyreLarge.stl). TyreLarge.stl fits on the large rim (RimLarge.stl), with all the others, including the large offroad tyre, using the small rim (RimSmall.stl).
The tyres fit snugly on the rims; because they are now flexible you should be able to push them onto (and off) the rims with firm pressure of the thumbs, but once on they should not easily slip around on the rim. If the fit is unsatisfactory, simply scale the tyre up or down in both the X and Y dimensions by a suitable (hopefully small) percentage and try again. The tyres are also symmetrical (i.e. unless you changed colours during printing they do not have a preferred inside/outside or rotation direction) - but of course the finish on the top and the bottom will differ, with the side on the print bed likely to be slightly smoother. Orient them as you please, and enjoy.
And while you are playing with Little pit stop cars: a tool.
The author remixed this model.
Remodelled the original one-piece wheels into a separate rim and a tyre, which can now be printed in TPU or similar flexible filament.
