I designed a Pinewood Derby Timer focused on getting a sub 50 ms resolution and easier setup and use than the previous timer the group was using, dating back until at least the 90s.
When designing this I was focused on a few things: reliability, repeatability, simplicity, low cost, and expanded functionality. I met most of these goals. The major one still outstanding is the expanded functionality. The end goal will be the controller being compatible with the Derby Net race management software which will be accessible via a WiFi network managed by the Raspberry Pi Zero W.
