Meet the P.E.P.85 3D Printed Whoop. A Place for Extra Parts :)

If you're learning to fly whoops you probably crash a lot. I sure do. Whoops have gotten so cheap that it's often more economical to just buy a new bird instead of continually replacing frames.

For me I found that the BetaFPV Cetus X frame was always breaking so I bought a HappyModel Mobula8. I still had a working setup of extra parts, so I came up with a Place for Extra Parts, the P.E.P.85!

The PEP85 is designed to be as light and as strong as possible for a 3D printed whoop frame. It flies great and replacement parts can easily be printed.

The modular design means that you only need to print and replace broken parts instead of the entire frame. Each part prints quickly and without need for supports.

The frame can be assembled standard (props up) or inverted (props down) depending on your preference. I personally prefer inverted as it seems to be better balanced and it uses two less screws.

There are currently two versions of the ducts, one lighter, one stronger. Either way I have yet to come up with a crash proof design, so until I do... Print up a bunch of frames and ducts and bring them to the field with you!

The current design will directly replace a CetusX frame (4 bolt motors). When I have some three bolt motors I will design an appropriate frame.

  • The frame and ducts can be printed in either PLA or PETG. 20% gyroid infill.
  • The canopy and battery holders (print 2) should be printed in TPU.
  • After mounting the canopy, use a rework tool to form the camera hole.
  • Assemble using 2mm screws.

UPDATE March 19, 2025!

I have designed and uploaded a second stronger version of the frame. If you print with 2 top/bottom layers, 1 wall and 50% gyroid infill, it is stronger and lighter than the original!

Files are free for personal use. If you wish to sell this frame, I will grant commercial rights while a $10 monthly subscription either here or on my patreon (coming soon!).

Please post lots of comments, suggestions and makes!
