I made this mount to stack two sets of MaxTrax traction boards to a horizontal MOLLE panel. It uses the MaxTrax mounting pins (17mm variant) which come in several models depending on the type of boards you have:

  • For 2 or 4 MkII boards - MaxTrax MTXMPS17
  • For 2 MkII and 2 Xtreme boards - MaxTrax MTXMPSX17
  • For 2 or 4 Xtreme boards - MaxTrax MTXXMPS17

You also need the following hardware:

  • M8 x 20mm stainless socket cap screw - McMaster 91292A147
  • M8 tapered heat-set insert - McMaster 94180A504

You'll need 2 of the top parts and 4-8 of the backers. Print the top with supports.

Print in a plastic that's both durable and usable at summer car temps! I used Atomic Filament PETG-CF for the tops and Polymaker PA6-CF for the backers. I recommend 8+ perimeters and cubic or gyroid infill.

To assemble:

  • Install the MaxTrax pins in the outer holes and tighten with socket wrench.
  • Install M8 heat-set inserts into the backers using a soldering iron. An appropriate installation tip for these inserts is a huge plus. (CNC Kitchen's set is excellent.)
  • Place the two top parts on your panel and measure 940mm top part outside to top part outside. I recommend a tape measure. This will give you 890mm from pin center to pin center.
  • Install the M8 x 20mm screws through the top part, your panel, and into the backers.

Note that I've only tested this in horizontal configuration. For vertical mounting be aware that you'll be putting tension along the Z axis of the part, which is usually the weak axis for 3D printed parts.

This was inspired by the MaxTrax “flat mount,” intended for roof racks, which is out of stock everywhere as I write this.
