When you are printing flexible filaments (like TPU) on the XL, it is impossible to feed it through the side filament sensor due to the internal ball bearings. This bypass solves that.
There are Several versions:
Case_HM - Horizontal mounted Sensor Case
Case_VM - Vertical mounted Sensor Case
If you have your side filament sensors in their original positions, you will need to print the LS_1,2,3 and RS_4,5 with the case you choose to print.
Be sure to import the number and case files together into the slicer as "Multiple objects for multi-material printing so the numbers are aligned correctly.
The HM_Case has the ‘notch segment’ rotated 90° so the case can be screwed to a horizontal frame extrusion. I aslo made the numbers easier to read. I made this for my machine as all my side sensors are on the right side of my printer.
The “Bypass” part should be printed with the embossed “B” in one end facing up.
IMPORTANT: When attaching the Bypass to the case (match the Hex key features) be sure the embossed “B” faces to the rear. This will ensure the filament will feed correctly through the bypass.
I didn't have any collet fittings so oi used these pneumatic ones that I had on hand left over from a different project
When using the bypass, simply remove the PTFE tube of the extruder you will printing the flexible filament with from the rear of the filament sensor and insert the tube into the rear of the bypass. Then just feed the flexible filament into the front of the bypass. After unloading the flexible filament simply replace the PTFE tube back into the rear of the filament sensor.
