I wanted to paint some butterflies onto my daughter's toybox, so made this.

It's designed to be printed as 2 layers with a 0.2mm layer thickness, and it prints very fast (11mins).

It scales down well, and although you'll lose the antennae, it's still a good silhouette. Make sure you scale it only in X/Y, Z should remain as 2 layers.

Print Details

  • 0.4mm nozzle for finer detail, I printed mine in 0.5 with no issues.
  • 0.2mm layer height.
  • PLA or PETG
    • PLA will likely be easier to remove from the bed.
    • I used PETG and lost some of the perimeter when removing, but it still painted just fine.
  • You'll want your 1st layer dialed in well as it's key to the structural integrity.
  • Let fully cool!
  • Remove carefully with a thin spatula / palette knife (I use these as they're cheap and work well).

Usage

  • Tape it onto your object.
  • Load a regular house paintbrush or stipple brush with a little paint (less is more, here)
  • Gently dab the paintbrush down on the surface, don't swipe or wipe, just dab gently until it's covered.
  • Remove and enjoy.
