Luminous Nomai Mask Outer Wilds

I would like to share with you the creation of the Nomai mask, a project inspired by a fantastic concept originally designed for the Prusa XL (thank you Mallow). I designed and adapted this model for my Prusa MK4 printer, and here are the detailed steps for its fabrication.

1. Panel Fabrication

Print the six panel blocks (SW, W, NW, NE, E, SE), then assemble them by gluing them together. Some blocks require supports. To improve adhesion, use triangular "keys" that help interlock the pieces.
This step is delicate because the blocks do not provide much grip to ensure proper positioning. I used temporary supports to hold the pieces in place during assembly.

2. Printing the LED Diffusers

Print the LED diffusers (SW, W, NW, NE, E, SE), placing them flat on their widest surface to achieve a clean and uniform finish.

3. Box Fabrication

Print the box with supports, as it has a slight tilt to properly orient the mask.

4. Printing the Mask Centering Piece

This piece should be printed without supports for a better finish.

5. Printing and Assembling the Mask

Print the mask with supports, along with the arms (SW, W, NW, NE, E, SE). Apply a thin layer of glue to the ends of the arms before attaching them to the mask.

6. Soldering the LED Strips

Solder six small LED strips in parallel to the main strip.

7. Attaching the LEDs in the Panel Grooves

Glue the LED strips into the panel grooves. Since the original LED adhesive is not strong enough, use a hot glue gun to secure them properly against the walls.

8. Installing the LEDs for the Eyes

At the end of the main LED strip, solder three mini-strips of 2 LEDs in parallel to illuminate the eyes. To prevent short circuits, apply glue inside the eyes. There is no need to glue the eyes into the mask openings, as they fit securely in place.

9. Final Assembly

Glue the box and the centering piece to the back of the mask.

10. Wall Mounting

Use two nails to securely mount the mask on the wall. And there you have it—your Nomai mask is complete!

Je souhaite partager avec vous la réalisation du masque Nomai, un projet inspiré d’un superbe concept initialement conçu pour la Prusa XL. J’ai conçu et adapté ce modèle à mon imprimante Prusa MK4 et voici les étapes détaillées pour sa fabrication.

1. Fabrication du panneau

Imprimez les six blocs du panneau (SW, W, NW, NE, E, SE), puis assemblez-les en les collant entre eux. Certains blocs nécessitent des supports. Pour faciliter l’adhérence de la colle, utilisez des « clés » en forme de triangle qui permettent d’emboîter les pièces.

Cette étape est délicate, car les blocs n’offrent pas beaucoup de prise pour garantir une bonne position. J’ai utilisé des supports temporaires pour maintenir les pièces en place durant l’assemblage.

2. Impression des diffuseurs LED

Imprimez les diffuseurs LED (SW, W, NW, NE, E, SE) en les positionnant à plat sur leur face la plus large afin d’obtenir une finition propre et homogène.

3. Fabrication de la boîte

Imprimez la boîte avec des supports, car elle présente une légère inclinaison permettant d’orienter correctement le masque.

4. Impression de la pièce de centrage du masque

Cette pièce s’imprime sans support pour un meilleur rendu

5. Impression et assemblage du masque

Imprimez le masque avec des supports, ainsi que les bras (SW, W, NW, NE, E, SE) sans support. Appliquez une fine couche de colle sur l’extrémité des bras avant de les fixer au masque.

6. Soudure des bandes LED

Soudez six petites bandes LED en parallèle sur la bande principale.

7. Fixation des LED dans les gorges du panneau

Collez les bandes LED dans les gorges du panneau. Comme l’adhésif d’origine des LED n’est pas assez puissant, utilisez un pistolet à colle pour bien les fixer contre les parois.

8. Installation des LED pour les yeux

À la fin de la bande LED principale, soudez trois mini-bandes de 2 LED en parallèle pour illuminer les yeux. Pour éviter les faux contacts, appliquez de la colle à l’intérieur des yeux. Il n’est pas nécessaire de coller les yeux dans les orifices du masque, ils tiennent bien en place.

9. Assemblage final

Collez la boîte et la pièce de centrage à l’arrière du masque.

10. Fixation au mur

Utilisez deux clous pour fixer solidement le masque au mur. Et voilà, votre masque Nomai est terminé !
