Where I live it's hard to find specific models of electronic components, such as the designers' original 8x8 matrix. I obtained an alternative which works fine, but didn't align with the letters in the downloaded faceplate. And it needs 5V from Pin 40 VBUS.

All my files match the originals, so you can mix and match. You'll need to download the back plate and the optional legs from the original model, where you can find all the information about options, the software and videos showing how to make the finished clock.

  • “face-plate cut letters.3mf” Differences from the original are the solid first layer is removed, so the letters cut-outs go all the way through (the original thickness remains), and the screw holes are filled (as they don't work with my LED matrix)
  • “case-first-frame LED locators.3mf” adds some spacers which align the matrix with the faceplate letters
When assembling the clock with the matrix solder pads at top right, the side spacers will be on the left (no spacers on the right)
  • “case-second-frame VBUS cutout.3mf” has a channel for the  5V wire from VBUS. The photos show how to place the wire on the Pico
  • “face-plate cut letters text.3mf” adds to the other “cut letters” file some text where the GurgleApps logo would go. In PrusaSlicer (and presumably in other slicers) this text can be edited to whatever you like

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

  • Alterations to cut the letters right through the faceplate, with no thin layer blocking the light
  • align my 8x8 NeoPixel matrix (SAMIROB CJMCU-64) with the letters
  • fill the faceplate screw holes leaving a flat surface
  • cut a channel out of the 2nd frame for the 5V wire to VBUS on the Pico
  • Optionally add text where the GurgleApps logo would go
