Give your phone some time to rest and recharge.

Story

Ever since I saw ThePhonePillow by HpInvent, I wanted to remix it into a wireless charging pillow.

Alas, HpInvent's is using a very restrictive closed license, so I would not have been able to share it with the world.

Thankfully KingTut created a CC-BYNCSA model from scratch, which allowed me to re-do my work based on his much better model and share it with everybody. :-)

I ordered an wireless charger that can charge a phone to a distance of 20mm and got to work. Using that it's possible to charge a phone wirelessly all the way through the pillow, a case and a PopSocket.

The charger I got, is sold as a 30mm distance charger by “KPON” and called „Invisible Wireless Charger C30”, but the 30mm actually only work with power-sticker on the other side. Thankfully it works to 20mm without the sticker.

The whole process included modelling the charger as well as my phone's case in FreeCAD. Then creating a mechanism to slot-in, click and hold the charger in place. Then, using these models, modifying the original pillow in Blender until everything fit.

Materials & Printing

from PETG to PLA, PLA-Silk, etc, every material should work fine. I tested with PETG from eSUN and BioFusion Silk PLA from Extrudr so far, all with good results.

I had good results printing with a 0.6mm nozzle at 0.20mm layer height.

At least 15% of Lightning-Infill will work fine and save filament. I used 18% for good measure. The stand will come out above 100g and be quite stable.

If you prefer to have a heavier model, I added 3mfs for PrusaSlicer and BambuStudio where I cut the model and added more infill at the bottom.

Use as wired phone charging stand

  • use just like the original, with the USB plug coming in through the hole on the bottom of the phone and guide the cable either to the front or the back using the cable duct on the bottom

Use as wireless phone charging stand

  • buy the hexagonal shaped, under-desk, “Invisible Wireless Charger C30” from e.g. brand KPON (see photos)
  • Connect to USB and test it. Be aware, the charger needs some distance to your phone to work.
  • Slot the charger into the pillow, with the USB-port pointing down. (tip: keep the cable connected while slotting it in) until the clamps click and keep it in place.
  • bend the cable to where you need it, exit at front or back. (see photos)

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

  • re-shaped and partially enlarged model in Blender
  • designed cut-out in FreeCAD to slot-in the KPON „Invisible Wireless Charger C30”
  • bigger, better? and definitely would not have been possible without the awesome work by KingTut
  • now fits Pixel7pro hard-TPU-case with camera protector slider (Nillkin)
  • now fits phones with PopSocket AND case
