In the motorcycle I’m restoring, I need to remove 24mm shock absorber caps. The shock absorber looks as if it has never been disassembled, so after 27 years, a lot of force is required to unscrew them. At the same time, I wanted to ensure that there are no marks left on the caps and that they remain in perfect condition. The easiest way to do this is to use a socket wrench. However, the problem is with the dimensional tolerance of the wrenches and the fact that the socket has a chamfer, which results in a small contact area with the bolt. When a lot of force is applied, this causes the wrench to slip, often leaving marks behind.
I designed a tool that is an insert for a 30mm socket. This tool eliminates the chamfer and fits the cap without any play. As a result, even when applying large amounts of force, no marks are left.
