Description

PDF

IKEA sells cheap ceramic pots that have a small lip inside. This design is for a small plate that sits on that lip to create a water reservoir below.

There are several other similar designs available but I wanted one that is strong, quick and simple to print without supports. It can be printed in under an hour.

I didn't want a screen or grid over the tube as it allows me to easily pour out water if it gets overfilled or if the bottom reservoir gets some dirt inside it.

This design also features a tube that goes straight down which means it is possible to drop a float as a water indicator into it.

How to Use

The only thing you need is a Muskot pot and a short piece of string to wick the water up into the soil using capillary action. You can easily find this kind of cord by searching for "water wicks for plants" online. The hole is about 7mm so anything smaller than that should work.

Compatibility

Note that IKEA sells different sizes of their Muskot pots (item 503.081.96 and 303.082.01). There is an STL for the 9cm version as well as the 12cm version.

Customizations

I can easily create additional sizes if needed. Please comment if you have a similar pot and need a customized version. I simply need to know the diameter of the top, bottom and the height and I can calculate the angle of the tube.

How I Designed This

Written by hand using OpenSCAD.

If this is helpful to you please leave a comment and let me know. I'd love to see how it goes and what you do with it! If you have any problems or suggestions, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
