I wanted to try the whole squash ball feet thing to raise my printer up a little, which would allow me to put my 4.2" touch screen next to the stock screen on my MK3S+.  I found one I thought I liked, but it was difficult to print, difficult to install, and snapped away from the extrusion easily.

This design features three parts.

  • The foot, which can be printed upright, on its flat surface, without support
  • The “fingers”, which go into the open of the extrusion and keeps everything from spinning around and can be printed on its side without support
  • The nut, which is a printable hammmer/t nut that uses a square M3 nut inserted through the side and can be printed on the side without the hole for the M3 nut without support

You will need the M3 square nut, and some M3 screws.

Once printed, carefully put the nut into the extrusion and give it a half turn clockwise.  Then place the “fingers” into the side of the extrusion around the nut.  Finally, with a screw through the hole in the foot, place the foot on the fingers and screw it into the nut being held in place with the fingers.

I've added a diagram that I hope better explains it.  You can see that the assembly is at the end of an extrusion.  The nut is in blue, inside the extrusion.  The fingers are in green, placed into the extrusion, around the nut, holding it in place.  And then the foot is placed on top of that, between the two nubs that stick out of the extrusion, lining it up and holding it square.

Shove your squash balls into the feet, and away you go.
