We're having a Foosball tournament at work, so I used this Ironman design as the basis for a pair of trophies that will go to the winning team. Pieces were printed in translucent white PLA, with the layers in front the LEDs about 0.7mm thick to really let the light shine through. The eyes are each lit by a pair of fibre optic strands that follow a tube from the mid-body up to the eyes. I hope you can make them out in the one image that is all transparent. The LED in the chest is mounted directly in the chest, and glued into place.

Wires and LEDs reside in the hollow part of the legs, and wires feed down to the base to connect it all up. The base houses an on/off switch, plus the batteries that power the LEDs A cover closes it all in for safe keeping, plus it helps hold the batteries in place.

The translucent is REALLY translucent when LEDs are mounting inside. I had to prime with black paint to prevent light leaking through the body. Black->Black->White->Red/Gold. One of the statues actually has black PLA for the legs - that made a huge difference.

Two halves of the body were attached with Plastruct Plastic Weld and left to dry overnight. Gaps at the joint were filled with Testors modelers putty. and sanded/scraped smooth. The tops of the bases were also smoothed with putty and sanded. No sanding was done to any of the other parts (ie. head, body elements) for fear of losing details.

Batteries are two of size 357A/AG13
Switch is a typical micro-switch on eBay
LEDs were Bright White SMD 3528

Print instructions

Category: 3D Printing Print Settings

Printer: Aurora A3

Rafts: Yes

Supports: No

Resolution: 0.1mm

Infill: 25%

Notes:

Editing was done in Tinkercad, sliced with Cura. Roughly 24hrs of print time per statue.

Only used brim on the Legs, and it has a small surface area. One print (without a brim) failed about half way through when it came loose from build plate.
