Since we spend a lot of time in Ticino, where we learned to know and appreciate this traditional vessel, I always wanted to create the Boccalino on a 3D printer.
No sooner said than done :).
Some background information: The Boccalino (diminutive of Italian boccale,[1] which means something like jug) is a wine drinking vessel from Ticino with a volume of around two decilitres. The Ticino country wine (Nostrano) is traditionally drunk from the Boccalino. Sometimes the wine is mixed with Gassosa. In the 1950s it became a popular souvenir and advertising subject for the Ticino tourist area It was known throughout Switzerland and gave its name to a number of Ticino grotti and Swiss restaurants. In the 1970s, however, it fell out of fashion again because it was considered a symbol of mass tourism.[2] The jug is a smaller version of an earlier Italian wine mass with its characteristic shape. The Boccalino is a bulbous glazed clay vessel with a foot, a handle and a spout. The various painted or molded decorations can be simple blue and red ring-shaped bands around the belly, the foot or the mouth of the cup or can represent specific Ticino motifs (buildings, monuments) or simple wine motifs (grapes and leaves). Boccalini were previously made by hand in the canton of Ticino and were individually painted. The last resident manufacturer closed its Noranco manufacturing facility in June 2008.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
