Description:

Dogs bring joy to everyone! The 12 Dogs Dodecahedron allows you to feature twelve playful puppy designs in a stunning geometric decoration.

Measuring approximately 10 cm in height, this model adds a delightful touch to any decor.

Backstory:

After creating a cube and a tetrahedron a year ago, I wanted to push the design further and challenge myself with a dodecahedron. However, with the assembly method I had used, I couldn't make it work. Recently, I decided to revisit the project with a fresh perspective. My goal remained the same—maintaining the slotting system of faces and angles to optimize the surface finish of each piece.

My wife loves dogs, but since we live in an apartment and both work full-time, having a real one isn’t an option. One day, I stumbled upon a collection of vector dog illustrations, and the idea clicked instantly.

Included in the Set:

  • 12 plates with dog illustrations
  • 20 angles for assembly.
  • Additional blank plate

Technical Specifications:

  • Printer used: Prusa Mini+
  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm
  • Layer height:
    • 0.15 mm (plates)
    • 0.10 mm (for angles for better visual quality).
  • 4 perimeters | 6 bottom layers (0.6 mm) | 6 top layers (0.6 mm) | 15% infill.
  • Filaments used: Polymaker Polyterra PLA

Printing Instructions:

The plates:

  • "Ironing" parameter activated for a smoother finish.
  • M601 break for color changes:
    • Color changes at layer 25 (3.75 mm height) for the first dog color.
    • Color changes at layer 29 (4.35 mm height) for the plate color.
    • Color changes at layer 33 (4.95 mm height) for the second dog color.
    • Color changes at layer 37 (5.55 mm height) for the dog outlines.

The angles:

  • You must print 20 of them in the “pyramid position.”
  • Printed with supports for improved print quality and better contact areas with the plates.

Assembly Instructions:

Note: Inserting plates into the angles requires precision and patience. (Refer to the picture.)

  1. Print 20 angles.
  2. Print 12 faces.
  3. Assemble 5 angles onto one face, then attach another face to it. Repeat this process a second time to create the top and bottom halves of the dodecahedron.
  4. Add 4 additional faces to each of the two assembled halves. Ensure all parts are properly slotted together.
  5. Insert angles between the newly added faces. IMPORTANT: Do not fully slot these angles in yet—keeping them slightly loose is crucial for the next step.
  6. Carefully join the two halves of the dodecahedron. Align the faces and angles progressively, pressing them together millimeter by millimeter. Take your time to avoid forcing the pieces.
  7. Congratulations! Your dodecahedron is complete. Enjoy your creation!
