I have seen various tool organizer designs, but they were all kind of huge, or bulky, and were designed to hold a wide variety of tools. They looked like they would eat up a ton of filament to print. I wanted a simple organizer or caddy that would hold the tools that I use most often, and one where the tools are the main focus. I came up with the original Minimal Tool Organizer, and then this version 2 tool organizer, and it works well (for me). This version 2 design uses ~46% less filament than the original version (when sliced at 100% infill, which is what I printed mine with).

There are two models, one with 1 glue stick socket, and one with two. I use the second socket for a small flashlight.

Some people might see this design and ask why I didn't include slots for nozzle cleaners, wrenches, hex tools, etc. The answer is simple. I use those tools very infrequently, and I can get them out of my storage box when I need them. I wanted to have available, at my fingertips, just the tools that I regularly use, most of which are for the post printing process.

The scrapers and the filament clips are not my design, but I use them, so I designed around them. Here are the links to those:

The scrapers:     https://www.printables.com/model/291609-bed-scraper-mk2-8g-25min/files     and     https://www.printables.com/model/55519-bed-scraper-fast-print-15min-minimal-filament-usag/comments/1307383 .

The filament clips: https://www.printables.com/model/622315-iiidmax-3dbambu-labs-filament-spool-clip/comments/1321912 .

I acknowledge that people have a wide variety of tools that they prefer to use. It is unlikely that another 3D printing enthusiast would use the exact same tools. Thus, this design is very customized. However, I thought that I would share it because it might give someone an idea on how they might design their own custom tool organizer in a minimalist way.

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

I used my original design for a year or so and there were a few things that I didn't like about it. So I made the following changes:

  • It uses ~46% less filament than the original design.
  • I removed the file tray extensions, because the files would fall off easily, and, when in their correct positions, the files would block access to the filament spool clips.
  • I reduced the connecting support structure because it was overkill – the tray is stable enough when the tools are in their positions.
  • I reduced the wall thickness of many of the tool receiving sockets, and the height of a few of them.
  • I added receiving sockets for the individual files so that they are standing up, and more easily grabbed.
  • Rather than using a filament clip tray, I made a small bar on which the filament clips are stored.
  • I changed the position slightly of the various receiving sockets, and removed one type of socket, but included a version with an additional glue stick socket (which I use for a flashlight).
