Install heat-set inserts straight and easily! This rail system attaches to Chris Borge's awesome Model 3 drill press and holds on to a soldering iron using the Adafruit clamp. The height of the soldering iron can be set by pushing the two pins into the slot on the Mount to lock it into place. If your part is extra tall, you can install the rail upside-down to get more z-height

There are two versions, one where the carriage is one part (Fixed Size), and another in two parts where you can scale the Spacer Block's thickness to align your soldering iron to the center of the table on the y-axis (Variable Size).

Instructions:

  • Print all the parts labeled as “Heat set press_Both_”, making sure to print two copies of “Heat set press_Both_Pin_x2.stl”.
  • Choose one of the following:
    • “Heat set press_Fixed Size_Mount.stl” OR
    • “Heat set press_Variable Size_mount.stl” and “Heat set press_Variable Size_spacer.stl”, scaling the spacer to your desired thickness
  • Ironically, you will need to install four m3 heat set inserts before you can use it. They go in the corners of “Heat set press_Variable Size_mount.stl” or “Heat set press_Fixed Size_Mount.stl” so you can install “Heat set press_Both_Cover.stl” with four m3 screws

As far as I can tell, this is the first 3rd-party attachment for the drill press system!

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

Faceplate design is from Chris Borge's wonderful drill press.

Clamp design is from the Adafruit heat set insert press.

Rail and carriage are original.
