Motivation

I wanted to mount my jumper wires to my honeycomb storage wall.

Solution

Design and print a jumper wire rack compatible with the honeycomb storage wall that achieves the following objectives:

  • Rack spacing compatible with the Honeycomb Storage Wall cell spacing
  • As parametric as possible providing customization of wire and channel counts and all dimensions including supported wire length
  • Minimal filament and support use – the combs do not require a connector piece
  • Label to identify the designed wire length
  • Small pry slot in case the peg gets stuck in the insert
Customization

The two included .stl models are the wire lengths that I needed. Of course, these can be used if they happen to fit your wire lengths as well. If not, you can create a custom rack using the Fusion file. If you are not able to get Fusion to work for you, please send me a message (see below) and I will post your requested .stl files at my earliest convenience.

  • The Fusion file is included. You can customize a few parameters (DESIGN | SOLID | MODIFY | Change Parameters) without too much effort or Fusion design experience. The wire and channel counts as well as the wire length are favorited, but most of the other parameters can be modified.
    • The WireLength parameter should be measured from the inside dimensions of the jumper wire’s connector housings
    • I automated as many of the parameters as possible. As the wire length is changed, some of the features may swap warning states depending on if an extension arm is needed to connect with the insert peg. Those features are selectable using the WireLength selection set and most likely should not be modified. By contrast, the features in the ChannelCount selection set should be verified and likely modified further after the ChannelCount parameter is modified.
  • I used the ParametricText add-in to dynamically update the wire length label. If you want to use this add-in as well, you can follow the directions to install it, then close and re-open the provided .f3z file. It should automatically update a few seconds after the wire length parameter is changed. If not, you may need to navigate to (DESIGN | SOLID | MODIFY | Change Text Parameters) and click OK to force an update. If this does not work or you prefer, you can simply update the individual sketch text instead.
Printing

See the attached .3mf for my settings, model orientation, and painted supports. I printed in PLA on a Prusa MK4S. Print two for each rack.

Installation

Simply install the bottom part upside down at the appropriate length and slide the jumper wires in
