The Polymaker PolyDryer Box is great and I appreciate that Polymaker provided a printable model for wall mounting, but they did not include a .step file for modification to adapt it for mounting to other systems like the Honeycomb Storage Wall.
Solution
Convert Polymaker’s wall mount to a solid model for use as template (exported as .step file), then design and print a custom back plate that achieves the following objectives:
Hole spacing compatible with the Honeycomb Storage Wall
Hole geometry compatible with Honeycomb Storage Wall inserts
The included models are designed for M5 countersunk screws. If you need another size, reference the customization section below.
Fully parametric providing customization of many dimensions
Remove the Polymaker branding
(Optional) Split design to save some filament and minimize the unnecessary geometry of the backplate’s middle when using a standard hole spacing as provided by the Honeycomb Storage Wall
The split design works much better when two inserts are attached to each part (4 total). As you can see from the pictures, I prototyped the split honeycomb version, so I know it works well. The full design that matches the original should work about as well as originally intended by Polymaker, but due to the 2.5 mm standoff of the Honeycomb Storage Wall inserts, slight flexing is likely. Of course, this could be minimized with a matching 2.5 mm cutout to the backplate, but further modifications to the thickness of the backplate would be necessary to still accommodate the mounting screws. I took a simpler approach, but feel free to make that adjustment to the Fusion file if you would like.
(Optional) Honeycomb cutouts to minimize required filament (and the Honeycomb Storage Wall design) while maintaining strength
Customization
The Fusion file is included. You can customize a few parameters (DESIGN | SOLID | MODIFY | Change Parameters) without too much effort or Fusion design experience including the screw hole diameter and chamfer, wall thickness, and honeycomb hexagon diameter (may require further modification of the respective extrude feature).
Materials
Printed
(1) One of the following backplates
(2 parts) Split Honeycomb
(2 parts) Split Solid
(1 part) Full Honeycomb
(1 part) Full Solid
(1) (Original) Wall Mount Clip (also included in the provided .3mf)
See the attached .3mf for my settings, model orientation, and painted supports. I printed in PLA on a Prusa MK4S.
Post-Processing
Depending on how clean the supports detach from the bottom lip of the backplate, you may need to file down some of that surface until it fits snugly inside the mounting slot on the back of the PolyDryer Box.
Installation
Tightly attach the inserts to the backplate part(s)
Slide the clip in the top of the backplate
Snap the backplate part(s) into the Honeycomb Storage Wall. The split parts should be spaced 7 (top-to-top) honeycomb cells apart (or 5 (bottom-to-top)).
