These clips are designed to attach current commercially available bird control strips to solar panels.

The issue I faced with the clips included with the bird control strips on my installation is that the clips at the lower end of the solar panels did not hold when a pack of snow sided down the panels. Two consecutive winters in a row snow took down the bird control strips. Hence I decided to create my own design, aiming to mitigate this issue.

Key features:

  • Snow resistant. No part protrudes above the frame, so the pack of snow sliding down the solar panels will not carry the clips along.
  • Designed for outdoor use. Printable in ASA which is commonly used for outdoor projects due it it's UV and temperature resistance.
  • Removable. If you need to perform maintenance on the panels or roof then the clips can be removed as opposed to solutions using permanent glue.
  • Easy to manufacture. The clips are designed such that threaded inserts can easily be inserted.
  • Firmly attach to the solar panel. The clip design secures a strong connection to the solar panel frame.
  • No force applied to the glass of the solar panel. The clips attach to the frame of the solar panel and do not touch or apply pressure to the glass.

I've installed these clips on my solar panel installation recently (January 2025) so at the time of writing they have been installed for two weeks. It remains to be seen if they live up to my expectations.
